We just added support for an additional 152 top-level domains (TLDs), increasing the support to 511 TLDs in total.
Support means that you can search for those domains across intelx.io and APIs, and internally that our backend supports processing them.
While you can start searching for them immediately, it will take some time until our indexers are re-processing the existing data set. We will start the re-indexing process soon after adding support for some additional crypto currency addresses (such as Ethereum addresses).
Part of the added TLDs were the pseudo-TLDs “local” and “lan”. They are sometimes used in corporate network environments.
Another noteworthy pseudo-TLD is “eth” which is operated by the Ethereum Name Service.
Another one is the TLD “arpa” – we will only see after re-indexing how and where they are actually used.
Currently IANA lists a total of 1487 recognized TLDs. Quality control is our main concern why we don’t simply support all TLDs – such as “zip”, which would lead to many false positives. You can read our considerations in this 2020 blog post.
At Intelligence X we categorize data sources into buckets. Buckets can be used as filters and to broadly identify the source of individual search results. For example, the bucket “Darknet Tor” indicates the result origins from some a Tor hidden service (.onion domain) and was collected by our Tor crawler. Buckets have human readable names
